Not every study that mentions “randomized” or “controlled” is a true RCT, so it helps to know exactly what to look for when reading a paper or its abstract.
Look for Explicit Random Assignment
The clearest sign is a direct statement that participants were randomly assigned to groups, often naming the method used, such as computer-generated randomization, random number tables, or block randomization. If participants were assigned based on convenience, preference, or an existing characteristic, it isn’t a true RCT.
Check for a Control or Comparison Group

Look at the Methods Section, Not Just the Title
